Origin of the Promise Ring

Joy Jewelers Tip: Back when Shakespeare was crafting his work, promise rings were called Posey Rings. A Posey Ring was usually engraved with romantic sayings or poetry for the person wearing it. In Biblical times a betrothal was common practice. In this betrothal a man and a woman were pledged to marry, with the betrothal as a sort of a contract agreeing that the marriage would indeed take place. Along with this betrothal the man would give the woman a ring to wear. The woman would wear the ring as a sign of her promise to wed this man. The promise ring certainly isn't a new fad, is it?
