January 22, 2010, Newsletter Issue #108: Why Buy Moissanite Rings?

Tip of the Week

If you are on a tight budget but still want to purchase a ring that looks so similar to a diamond that jewelers can't tell it from one, then moissanite may be a choice for you. You can choose a moissanite ring in any of the shapes you would choose a true diamond ring. Moissanite is not as hard as a diamond, but it is close. Moissanite rings are also much more heat resistant than diamonds. Not that anyone would ever purposely put their diamond in extreme heat, but at around 1100 degrees celsius a diamond can catch fire and start evaporating. The moissanite ring would actually stay intact and still beautiful. This means that moissanite rings are less likely to be damaged during repair at a jeweler, which can often be done in high heat conditions and it is less likely to be lost in a fire.
