January 19, 2007, Newsletter Issue #10: Moissanite vs. Cubic Zirconia

Tip of the Week

Many people wonder what the difference is between moissanite and cubic zirconia. Moissanite is said to be more brilliant than cubic zirconia regardless of if the cubic zirconia is hand-cut or machine made. Moissanite is also said to be much more durable than a cubic zirconia. Moissanite is also more resistant to heat than cubic zirconia is and is harder, however moissanite weighs less than cubic zirconia. Cubic zirconia is cheaper than moissanite. Cubic zirconia runs around $20 to $30 a carat for a ring while moissanite rings can run $50 a carat or a bit more. Both moissanite and cubic zirconia are available in other forms of jewelry, from cubic zirconia and moissanite earrings to pendants to bracelets.
